Around the Internet (1/9/13)

A Feminist TaleNew York Magazine has posted a very long, and quite sad article by  Elizabeth Wurtzel titled “Elizabeth Wurtzel Confronts Her One-Night Stand of a Life.”  Wurtzel grew to fame after publishing her first book Prozac Nation.  Among other topics, the article discusses the result of her decision to consistently live outside of what she views as the conventional life of a woman.  Denny Burk, one of my favorite bloggers, also has a post that provides great insight into Wurtzel’s article.

Why You Should Care about the Hobby Lobby Case – “The facts are well known: the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) requires employers to provide insurance for their employees. As part of the mandated health coverage, businesses must include contraceptives and abortifacient drugs in their insurance plans. Hobby Lobby, owned by the Green family (strong Christians and generous philanthropists), is refusing to comply with the HHS mandate, believing that the government is requiring what is unethical and infringing upon their religious liberty.”

Adding Color to Historic Photos – “Artist Mads Madsen has an amazing skill for colorizing old black and white photographs. Even beside their original counterpart the results are impressive, bringing a new dimension of realism to historic images.”

  1. Another great entry! Thank you! I definitely could use the art website for more exposure for my students. I am also glad you are spreading the word about Hobby Lobby and why this is such an important issue. Keep it up bro!
